Taking wedding dress on the plane?

i am getting married in Cyprus in 3 weeks time. I have no idea how to get my wedding dress over there in 1 piece. There is no-one there that i can ship it to before hand. You are not allowed to hang it in the plan and im not putting it in the suitcase! I ahve an idea about getting a box that fits within the max hand luggae allowance measurements and taking it on the plane in that? What have aother people done who can got married abroad?Any ideas most welcome!
