How to keep a iPod safe in a hot car?

Ok well I'm going on vacation tomorrow an I really really really wanna bring my iPod touch because it is a long trip and I wanna listen to music. The place im going to is going to be like 80 degrees and I can't bring it with me because I'm going to a waterpark\amusement park an I seriously don't wannalose it because I always seem to lose ALOT. what I'm going to do is put it in the dashboard. Or should I do my suitcase? Out of direct sunlight and put it in a baggie and next to it I'll put a ice pack that's also in a baggie to try to keep it cool in there. Is this a good plan or not. ADVICE?
